Chorus Line & Copyright

The New York Times has an article yesterday on the Chorus Line dancers that gave away their life stories for one dollar to the show's author, Michael Bennett. Mr. Bennett used later these stories to write the famous show. Some of the dancers later participated in a series of creative workshops. According to the New York times article, the dancers later had an agreement with Mr. Bennett: they received later a percentage of the royalties from the original show, and from the show's subsidiary rights. However, the agreement does not include the new show.

The site of the new show features a blog , and the new dancers are talking about their own experiences as dancers, and how difficult it is to make it. I particularly liked the comment by Ms. Goodwin, telling us about her first job:" One of my first jobs was as a coat check girl(...). That was a great job because when I was in the coat room, I figured out quickly if you "studied" while you took their coats they liked to give you extra tip money for college! Spent a lot of time at the Fashion Bug with that college money!"
